Most server outages we attend were visible weeks earlier. A predictive-failure flag nobody read, a RAID running degraded since a disk went in March, a backup job reporting success onto a volume that filled in June.
A server AMC exists to catch those while they are still boring. The monitoring runs continuously, the preventive visit happens whether or not anything is wrong, and the restore gets tested on a normal Tuesday rather than during an incident.
We keep spare parts outside the annual fee on purpose. A contract that bundles them either prices in failures that never happen, or writes exclusions that quietly remove the expensive ones. Parts are billed at cost or claimed under warranty, and you see the invoice.
What the contract actually does
Firmware & BIOS currency
Tracked per machine and applied in a planned window. Most of the stability fixes you need were published months ago and never installed.
RAID & disk health
Predictive-failure alerts acted on, not logged. A degraded array is a countdown, and the second disk usually goes within weeks of the first.
Backups, restored not assumed
Job status checked, retention confirmed, and a real restore performed on a schedule. A backup you have never restored is an untested claim.
Thermal & power
Inlet temperatures, fan health and UPS runtime. In an unchilled Sharjah or Al Quoz unit this is the difference between a five-year server and a three-year one.
Hypervisor health
VMware, Hyper-V or Nutanix: patch currency, datastore capacity, snapshot sprawl and cluster warnings before they become a failover you did not plan.
Capacity planning
Growth measured rather than guessed, so the storage conversation happens a quarter before the volume fills, not the evening it does.
Out of warranty is not out of support
Most UAE businesses run at least one server past its warranty. That is a commercial decision, and it is often the right one — but it moves the risk onto you unless somebody is watching it.

An out-of-warranty machine gets a shorter check cycle and tighter disk thresholds, because nobody is coming with a next-business-day part.

Which brands do you maintain?
HPE ProLiant, Dell PowerEdge and Lenovo ThinkSystem cover most of what we see, plus Nutanix and VMware hosts and entry storage such as MSA and PowerVault. Tell us about anything unusual at inventory, not after signing.
How often is the preventive visit?
Quarterly by default. Monthly where heat, dust or power quality justify it — which in practice means most industrial units.
What happens when a disk fails?
We diagnose, source the part at cost or under warranty, and schedule the swap. Where the array is degraded we prioritise it, because the window before a second failure is the whole risk.
Is the operating system included?
Patching is. Application support is scoped separately — say which applications matter and they go in the contract explicitly rather than by assumption.
Can this sit alongside our existing IT provider?
Yes. A server-only AMC alongside an in-house team or another provider is a common arrangement. We document what we touch so the boundary stays clear.
